about

At the end of 2013 I had just finished a season of thinking heavily on the creativity of God. It really began on reading some theology on G-d's response to evil from Genesis, He confines it, denounces it, passes over it, and rather than dwell on it, He dives into full on creative action. How marvelous is that? It occurred to me that if we truly are in the image of God, then for us to inhibit or neglect our creative sides is therefore also inhibiting or neglecting our own image of God. So, I sought to create some music. I began to fool around with some chord progressions, but still had no lyrical content. It was at this time I picked up Interior Castle by St Theresa of Avila. The book is divided up into 7 main parts, and each song is a response to a quote that spoke to me from each main section.

St. Theresa of Avila likened the soul's journey to God as walking into a castle, ever walking deeper into its chambers and rooms (or as she calls them, mansions) until reaching the innermost room where the King resides.

To receive the most from this experience, I would encourage reading each quote and commentary before each song. I hope you enjoy my attempt to be creative in a new manner than I have ever before, and find the content engaging and worthwhile of further discussion. Feel free to share this with your own circle of family, friends, and most importantly, your own interior life with God as you have come to understand Him.

This would not be possible without two main people. Scott MacDonald for the sound production and making me sound better than I really do, and for Josh Strain for filling out the music with his acoustic guitar additions and his fantastic input. Thank you to both of you.

As for the album artwork, I desperately wanted to find a picture of a beautiful castle in the midst of a stormy night. Since I found no pictures that matched my mental image I chose Minas Tirith from Lord of the Rings. So thank you, brother Tolkien.

I enjoy trying to make music. I always appreciated acoustic/folk that had some grit, some dark side to it that still had some quiet hope behind it all.
