Track 4: The Kingdom is Advanced Through Love Alone
"I only want you to be warned that, if you would progress a long way on this road and ascend to the Mansions of your desire, the important thing is not to think much, but to love much; do, then, whatever most arouses you to love. Perhaps we do not know what love is: it would not surprise me a great deal to learn this, for love consists, not in the extent of our happiness, but in the firmness of our determination to try to please G-d in everything, and to endeavour, in all possible ways, not to offend Him, and to pray Him ever to advance the honour and glory of His Son and the growth of the Catholic Church." (pg 57)
The fourth room is another one of learning. But it is of learning that to love well is the highest goal. It is possible to over-intellectualize the Christian faith, to become entrenched in our high thoughts of G-d that they themselves become idols. We become proud in our theories, and then forget or explain away the true task of love: to build each other up, to respect the imago dei in each other, to relate to one another as people and not as pawns for our own desires or lusts, and so forth. For us to love anything other than G-d first and neighbor second is to work against the kingdom, because the kingdom is advanced through love alone.
